IMPORTANT UPDATES TO: POP-UP Run and Father's Day fun. Saturday night POTLUCK!

Details

Team WT,

Here's the GPX file for our Runing Springs to Joshua Tree run this weekend:

IMPORTANT UPDATE FOR NEXT WEEKEND:

Team WT,

These runs often throw us a curveball when we least expect it, including this run. We’re going to have to change plans significantly to make this work. The problem is that camping in the San Bernardino mountains, especially for a large group like WT, requires that we camp in a fee-based campground. There are very few wilderness campsites in the area, and WT is too large to use them. Plus, weekend camping in the National Forest NOW requires a 2-night stay at fee-based campsites. Curveball!

IMPORTANT: We’re going to have to make this a 2-day, Saturday-Sunday run. We’ll skip the Cleghorn to Running Springs section, and we’ll now run our Sunday and Monday routes on Saturday and Sunday. We’ll take a 2nd bite at the apple, by running the Cleghorn to Lake Arrowhead section, (near Running Springs) as a day run in the near very future.

POTLUCK on Saturday night!

We’ll meet in Running Springs on Saturday morning, 6/14 and run from there. We’ll end the run out the backdoor of Joshua Tree, as originally planned, on Sunday around 2pm

New GPS Rally Point: 34.20541, -117.10194
Rally at a vacant lot on the corner of Hunsaker Way and West Dr. in Running Springs. Take a left at the 76 gas station on HWY18, then the lot is just past the fire station. A very short distance from HWY18.

New Rally Time: 9:30AM, gassed up, air’d down and ready to roll

I’d appreciate a 100% confirmation from each of you on this change of plans, ASAP! I really wouldn’t want anyone to show up at Cleghorn, while we’ll be leaving from Runing Springs.

In the end we’ll get two runs, not just one, we’ll get our rigs dirty, see some amazing things, run some challenging trails in JT, and we’ll get to hang out together again! POTLUCK on Saturday night amidst the ancient Josua Trees.

Any quick thots on this? You can call me directly at: 951-316-5505

Father's Day Fun! / Run Information

So, I've had two WT's call me very recently and say, Mark get us back out on the dirt! Since I just got the 2nd call a few minutes ago, I'm a bit light on details, which will follow soon.

Let's keep this one simple and close to home. This can be a 2-day or a 3-day event, depending on your schedule and availability.

We'll meet at the Cleghorn exit off of US15, at the staging area just north of the freeway on Saturday, 14th at 8:30, (GPS Coordinate: 34.29797, -117.45887). That is, air'd down and ready for a team meeting at 8:30. We'll roll from there up and over Cleghorn, and across the road to the Pilot Rock Trail, around Silverwood Lake, and up into Lake Arrowhead for lunch. From there we'll be on the pavement to Running Springs, b4 jumping back onto the trail up near Green Valley, and into Hanna Flats Campground for the night.

IMPORTANT: SATURDAY night POTLUCK!

ALSO IMOPRTANT: Please let me know SOON whether you'll be coming bc I'll need to reserve campsites at Hanna Flats. 2-rigs per site, at about $15 each. If I don't hear from you, no campsite, sorry. I hate campgrounds, but in Big Bear it's the only choice.

On Sunday, we'll head up thur Holcombe Valley and down into Big Bear for lunch. This will be exit-point #1, for those who'll have to be back to the grind on Monday. Or, for exit-point #2, you can stick with us for a few hours as we descend Burns Canyon, (highly recommended, but TOTALLY your call). Those who'll be running thru Monday will turn off of Burns to camp amongst the ancient Joshua Trees near Rattle Snake Canyon. Those who'll need to skee-daddle will head down the mountain to Yucca Valley, onto the pavement, and off to Home.

Two choices on Monday:
1. For those who are up for an adventure, and are NOT risk adverse, you can run down Rattle Snake Canyon into Johnson Valley, and home from there.

2. The rest of us will run down with thru Pioneer Town and into Yucca Valley B4 hoping onto the blacktop a while b4 we enter into the remote, eastern part of Joshua Tree. B4 you say it, I know, JT's going to be HOT already! No problem, we'll turn on the air cond. and be out to US10 by about 1:30.

That's the plan for now, with more details to follow.

Now for the fine print: We’re a camping outfit. We don’t go looking for risky trails, or dangerous situations, but we all sign up knowing that there are some risks in going off road. On occasion, our rigs, and even our members and their guests could get banged up while we’re out there.
By voluntarily signing up and participating in this event, you agree to release and discharge in advance, Mark Dupray and Sam Underwood, and any other organizers or event hosts, from any and all liability. This liability waiver includes but is not limited to illness, injury, death, damage, and loss to yourself, your guests, or any of your personal property. You are responsible for your own safety, and you assume all risks that may result from your participation in this event. Nuf said.
