Eastern Mojave: Old Roads, Lost Places, & Wild Country Run

We are putting together one of our biggest Mojave adventures yet.

This multi-day overlanding expedition will take us deep into Mojave National Preserve and the surrounding Eastern Mojave backcountry, combining sections of the legendary Old Mojave Road, the East Mojave Heritage Trail, and remote connecting 4x4 routes.

We are planning stops through the Granite Mountains, Kelso Dunes, Vulcan Mine, Bonanza King Mine, Hole-in-the-Wall, Banshee Canyon, Wild Horse Canyon, Rock Spring, Bert Smith's Rock House, Mojave Mailbox & Frog Shrine, the Cinder Cones and Lava Tube, Soda Lake, Traveler's Monument, Afton Canyon, Spooky Cave area, and the Mojave River water crossing.

We also have one very special stop: an archaeological location connected to fieldwork I personally worked on in the Mojave. Its location will not be publicly posted or geotagged.

More details are coming, including the rally point, departure time, final trip-end location, detailed route and points of interest, campsites, fuel stops and fuel requirements, communications plan, daily mileage, vehicle requirements, and updated road conditions.

This is going to be real Mojave backcountry travel—remote roads, mining history, volcanic country, desert camps, ghost-town remains, historic trails and plenty of dust.
