We’re excited to announce the next meeting of Off the Page! This time, we’re stepping into the strange, touching, and often baffling world of the human mind with The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat by Oliver Sacks.
In this classic of medical storytelling, neurologist Oliver Sacks shares real-life case studies of patients with unusual and often astonishing neurological conditions—from a man who can’t recognize faces, to a woman who loses all sense of her own body. With compassion and curiosity, Sacks invites us to see his patients not as problems to be solved, but as individuals navigating altered realities.
It’s a deeply human book—by turns philosophical, funny, and profoundly moving—and a reminder of how complex and mysterious our minds really are.
Pressed for time? You can still join the discussion by watching this short summary, or by listening to excerpts from the book on YouTube or audiobook platforms.
Here’s what to expect at our next meet-up:
🧠 Deep and Thoughtful Discussion: We’ll talk about some of the book’s most memorable cases and the big questions they raise—about identity, perception, and what it means to be “normal.” No need to have finished the book to take part.
📘 Read (or Listen) What You Can: Even dipping into a chapter or two gives you plenty to think and talk about. Each story stands on its own, so you can jump in wherever you like.
💬 Space to Connect: After our main discussion, we’ll have time to unwind and chat more informally—whether you want to dig deeper into the book, share your own stories, or just enjoy good company.
We can’t wait to explore these curious and compassionate case studies with you. Bring your questions, your curiosity, and your own unique perspective—we’ll take it from there.Meeting Details:
