What we’re about
The Office of Modern Composition:
- conducts writing workshops and composes pleasurable moments, weeks and years.
- makes its own compositions: books, audio stories, signs
- helps other folks produce and complete their own works
We are the producers of The Shape of the World, a podcast about nature and cities.
And we teach classes, collaborate with organizations, and coach individuals.
Join our group to learn about upcoming events, workshops, bird-walks, and other OMC programming.

See all- May In-Person Writer's Clubhouse | A Co-Writing Space8 S Michigan Ave ste 200, Chicago, IL
The Office of Modern Composition is hosting our final (FREE!) Spring in-person co-write on Wednesday, May 7th from 4–5:30 pm. But don't worry if you miss this one... we'll host more events in the future!
A co-write is when you show up to a specific place with another writer and sit and write together for an agreed-upon amount of time. Since 2020, OMC has hosted weekly co-writes that meet online (you can find those on our MeetUp). But now, if you’re interested in joining us in person, we invite you to come write with us at––get this––the actual, literal office of the Office of Modern Composition.
What will it be like?
You’ll bring your computer or your notebook to our office and work in our space. When your mind wanders, you’ll be able to gaze out the windows at pretty Lake Michigan. The event is a totally free, totally casual, totally supportive opportunity for writers to come together and Just. Write. Spend 90 minutes journaling, putting the finishing touches on your novel, writing a limerick, or drafting a love letter. Bodacious snacks are provided.Where is it?
