Distance: ~4 miles instead of 6 miles. We will start the hike the Porter Family Picnic Area instead of the Mary Easton Picnic area.
Accumulated elevation gain: ~500 ft
Exposure: Mostly shady
Trail conditions: some steep places with protruding roots; bridge-less creek crossings with rock scrambling and balancing.
Duration: ~3.5 hours including lunch & carpool
Bring: water, lunch, tick repellent, hiking sticks. Please bring your State Parking Pass if you have one, or contribute $2 as your share of the $8 parking fee.
Carpooling: We will meet at the dirt parking lot on Aptos Creek Road behind the Epicenter Cycling shop and then carpool into The Forest of Nisene Marks.
Description: We will start this shady hike from the Mary Easton Picnic Area and proceed via the Porter Trail, Aptos Creek Fire Road, and Loma Prieta Grade Trail to the Porter House Site. Then we'll cross back to the Fire Road and continue up the road to the Aptos Creek Trail. The epicenter is just a half mile off the Fire Road on this trail. After a short stop at the epicenter, we'll return to the cars directly via the Fire Road.
