The February meeting for the Ohio North Database Training user group will be on Tuesday, February 7, 2022. This will be a HYBRID event and our featured speaker is Rick Pack.
Our in-person meeting location is in the Artemis offices at:

5:00PM EST: Online and in-person meeting begins with a social hour. This is an unstructured hour where you can join us to catch up and meet other members of the group before the session starts. There will be pizza brought in for in-person attendees.
6:00PM EST: Updates and announcements, followed by Rick's session (please review the abstract below for more details).
7:15PM EST: optionally after the main presentation, the in-person crowd may go out for snacks and drinks at a local establishment.

*Please note, we will be using Microsoft Teams for the online portion of this meeting. You may want to join a few minutes early to ensure you do not have any issues. If you are attending in-person, there are large TVs at the office and you do not need to bring a laptop or use Teams.

R and Python Uses of U.S. Census Data in Kaggle GoDaddy Forecasting Competition
Kyle Walker's tidycensus R package makes easy the acquisition of U.S. Census data that is useful for practicing data manipulation and analysis.
This talk will explore a few approaches to Census data using R and Python, highlighting elements including syntactical differences. Submissions with forecasts will be shown for the GoDaddy "MicroBusiness Density Forecasting" Kaggle competition, with the code to be made publicly available on the Kaggle website, as required, here: https://www.kaggle.com/competitions/godaddy-microbusiness-density-forecasting/code
Speaker Bio:
Rick Pack has about 15 years of data science experience that recently came to include the title of Senior Data Engineer. Rick has programmed in languages including SAS, R, SQL, and Python, and he has Alteryx "Advanced" certification. Rick lives in Raleigh, NC and is the "Site Coordinator" for the 100 Black Men of Triangle East youth mentoring organization, for which the national motto is "What They See is What They'll Be". For fun, Rick trains for and competes in master's track meets focusing on the 400m sprint.
