This month, we'll be doing Lightning Talks ⚡️ in-person at The Verge OKC! Join us in the heart of OKC while listening to some awesome local speakers talk about all things tech and tech-adjacent. All skill levels are welcome—lightning talks are especially great for those new to coding and/or our community, as well as our tech-adjacent friends in data, project management, design, marketing, and beyond.

📍 The Verge OKC, 5th floor Classroom in The Citizen building—right across the street from the Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum

But wait—what are lightning talks? We're glad you asked: a lightning talk is a short, 5–10 minute talk about anything you find interesting, and we typically feature 3–4 talks total at a Lightning Talk meetup. Topics can range from a personal project to a new technology, or just something that makes you think, "Hey, I bet other people would like to know about this." It's a great way for you—as an attendee and speaker—to learn about a lot of new things.

If you're a first-time speaker, lightning talks are a great way to step out of your comfort zone and get up on stage. We'll work with you every step of the way to make sure you feel comfortable and ready to give your talk.

Street parking is free. We'll head out for dinner and drinks afterward to keep the conversation going—feel free to join us even if you didn't make it to the event itself! Location TBD.

Interested in speaking at a future event? Hit up Aaron Krauss (thecodeboss) or Jonas Arroyo (Jonas Arroyo) in the Techlahoma Slack community. Not on Slack yet? Find someone who already is (you'll find plenty at each meetup), and they can invite you. We often have a variety of speaking opportunities, including shorter formats that are perfect for easing into your first talk.
