ABOUT ARTWORK βOVERFLOWβ by OK! Transmit:
Overflow is a generative, kinetic sound sculpture driven by real-time sensor input from traffic patterns on the Sunshine Skyway Bridge. It captures and reinterprets data from live traffic activity and transforms it into an evolving soundscape. Overflow transduces live camera input into sound and uses the lanes of traffic as a musical score. As the bridge in a song brings together the verse and the chorus,Overflow explores the idea of using this unique piece of architecture as a metaphor for connecting time and space.
ABOUT THE COLLABORATORS:
*Gregg Perkins is an Associate Professor and Founding Chair of the Film, Animation, and New Media Department at The University of Tampa. He received a BA in philosophy and an MFA in painting from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. Utilizing film, video, photography, digital media and historical research, his work questions how the fictional can alter the construction of cultural and social narratives.
*Mikhail Mansion is a technology artist who builds custom software and sensor-driven sculptures to uncover the hidden poetry of forces, ephemera, and sensations embedded in the world around us. Mikhail holds degrees from Rhode Island School of Design; Brown University; The University of Tampa; and is a veteran of the USAF.
*James Curran is a software engineer and experimental sound artist from Saint Pete, Florida. James creates ambient experimental music through sonic texture using digital sound manipulation techniques that express human emotional experiences.
