Lone Star Hiking Trail – Section Hike (45 Mile) 12 March 2026, 10:00 – 15 March 2026, 15:00

This will be a moderate, multi‑day backpacking trip. Due to campsite limitations, the group will be limited to 3–5 experienced backpackers. To participate, you must have completed one of our 10‑mile full‑pack qualifying hikes. If you haven’t completed a qualifying hike yet, please share a phone number or email address so we can discuss any prior backpacking experience that may meet the requirement.

We’ll travel to Richards, Texas, in the Sam Houston National Forest and begin at Trailhead #1 on the Lone Star Hiking Trail. This section is mostly flat and winds through the piney woods of East Texas. We’ll spend 4 days and 3 nights on the trail, hiking 10–12 miles per day. While the terrain is generally easy, some areas can be challenging. March weather can vary significantly—expect daytime temperatures in the low 70s and nighttime temperatures in the low 50s, but please be prepared for colder conditions.

Meeting Location:
Trailhead #1, 19664–19698 Forest Rd 219, near Richards, Texas
From Richards, take FM 149 about 3 miles east to FS Road 219 on the south side of the road. The parking lot is 1/10 mile on the left.
Please plan your travel so you arrive no later than 10:00. The drive from San Antonio is approximately 3.5 hours.

Gear & Supplies:
• Bring all your personal gear, including your preferred method for making water potable.
• Water sources should be plentiful, but all water must be filtered or treated.
• Pack enough food for the entire hike; no resupply options are available along this section.
• Each participant is responsible for their own costs, including fuel if carpooling.

All hikers must sign and submit a liability release form when signing up. Please provide an email address so I can send the form for your review. If you have questions or concerns about signing it, consult an attorney.
Please print the form, sign it by hand (no electronic or typed signatures), then scan it as a PDF or take clear photos of both sides and email them to me.

If you have any questions, feel free to reach out. Trail conditions may require adjustments to this plan, and I’ll keep you updated as needed.
