Ventana Canyon to Maiden Pools (intermediate)

Ventana Canyon is a hidden gem of the Catalinas. We will be hiking to most popularly traveled portion of the Ventana Canyon trail. Round trip length of the hike is 5.1 mi with 1371 ft total elevation gain. The first part of the trail goes through typical upland Sonoran desert habitat before we enter the canyon proper. It will be cool and shady in the morning, the best time of the day to enjoy the canyon scenery. We will go along the streamed gradually climbing until we reach the big hill where will do most of the climbing. At the top of the hill will be Maiden Pools where we will break and eat lunch. From there we will come back the way we came.

Ventana Canyon trail is quite rocky; it has big rocks you have to step over instead of a lot of little loose ankle twisters. Hiking poles are recommended.

What to bring:
at least 2L of water
good hiking footwear (you will regret wearing sneakers)

hiking poles
