Johnson or Stan Kenton or possibly Don Cherry? If this is you, you must be part of an exceptional crowd that seeks-out the solid groove or the smokin' jam session, where the sounds are cool and the standards are hot. Perhaps you are of the Latin side of jazz where Tito Puente and Poncho Sanchez moves your being. Or Maybe it's hearing Night and Day by Sinatra or A-Tisket, A-Tasket by Ella or perhaps Tenderly by Sarah Vaughan or Honeysuckle Rose by Joe Williams? Now you don't have to go all the way to the Lincoln Center to see Wynton Marsalis or the Village Vanguard to hear the Maria Schneider Big Band. We've got the local jazz scene right here in Olympia. Sometimes Seattle is just too far to go and I-5 can be a real headache. Sadly, the IAJE conventions are now long gone but fortunately for us, the jazz party starts here. Did you know there are about 50-Olympia based jazz musicians and vocalists who perform right here in our local community? It's time to get the word out! Come join us to create a community where the music thrives, the musicians jam and the cultured gather to support Olympia live jazz. We are your classic jazz connection in Olympia! Kate Olson Quartet @ Olympia Eagles
Eagles Hall, 805 Fourth Ave. E, 98501 , Olympia, WA, Olympia, WA, USKate Olson is an improvising saxophonist and music educator based in Seattle, WA. Since moving to Seattle in 2010, she has done her best to infiltrate the local, regional and international improvised music scenes. She can be heard performing with her own projects KO SOLO and KO QUARTET (New Album Out on OA2 Records in January 2026), and as a collaborator with the Royal Room Collective Music Ensemble, Wayne Horvitz Ensemble and Electric Circus (led by Wayne Horvitz), Birch Pereira and the Gin Joints, Battlestar Kalakala (formerly West Seattle Soul/the Pulsations), and with such Seattle staples as cabaret producers Can Can Presents and Verlaine & McCann.
Kate has a BA in Music (Jazz Emphasis) from the University of Wyoming and an MM in Improvisation from the University of Michigan, and is currently on the jazz faculty at Pacific Lutheran University and University of Puget Sound.
Kate’s international resume continues to grow, including performances in Russia, Latvia, Turkey, Switzerland, South Korea, Cuba, and Slovakia. She has appeared on stage with Terry Riley, Pauline Oliveros, Bobby Previte, Skerik, Patricia Barber, Elvis Costello, Brandi Carlile, Sir Mix-a-lot, Seattle Repertory Theater, Cafe Nordo, the Seattle Repertory Jazz Orchestra and Seattle Symphony Pops, among others.
Kate has been nominated for many Earshot Golden Ear Awards, including Emerging Artist and Best NW Instrumentalist Categories. In 2016 her band KO Ensemble was also nominated as best NW Alternative Group. In 2020 the KO Ensemble won the Golden Ear Award for best NW Instrumental Group and in 2022, KO Electric was nominated for Best Alternative Group. In 2025, Kate won the Best NW Instrumentalist category. She is also the receipient of a 4Culture Projects Grant and an SPL Writer’s Room Residency.The Quartet is....
