DAYLIGHT SAVINGS DAY-TURN YOUR CLOCK BACK ONE HOUR
This is a 6 to 7 mile round-trip, out and back hike on the Dosewallips River Road Trail. Total elevation gain/loss is approximately 800 feet.
We start this hike at the end of Dosewallips Road. No parking pass required. Like the Olympic Hot Springs Road at the Elwha River, a portion of the road was washed out 20 years ago and has been decommissioned. There is a short and steep by-pass trail up and over the washout area if we can't hike along the river. After that, the trail is mainly flat for a few miles, then starts a gentle ascent along the river. Our goal will be to hike about 3 to 4 miles out, head back and have lunch at the old Elkhorn campground along the river.
Voluntary carpooling meets at John Wayne Marina. Be ready to leave at 830am. No parking pass needed here.
If needed, we can meet for carpooling again at the Hood Canal Ranger Station in Quilcene at 915am. I am limiting this event to 10 people, so please only RSVP if you intend to join.
From the Hood Canal Ranger Station, we drive about 11 miles down the 101 and turn right on Dosewallips Road for 8 miles. It's mostly paved, but the last couple of miles is a flat, easy dirt road. The parking area is tight and there is no restroom available.
