Let's try this again!
It's been a wet winter so far, but the forecast is showing a few inches of snow expected and maybe a little sunshine as well.

Please read this whole posting. Park rules allow for 12 people max in one group, so only sign up if you intend to participate.

Meet at Olympic National Park Visitor's Center in Port Angeles at 10am for voluntary carpooling. The 17 mile road up to Hurricane Ridge generally opens at 9am. All vehicles must show a National Park Pass at the fee station and have snow chains in the vehicle. The road is plowed but may have ice near the top. A ranger may ask you if you have chains in your car.
Let me know if you plan to meet us at the top at 11am so we are not waiting for you at the Visitor's Center in PA. Please indicate in the comments if you can drive and/or need a ride.

This is an approximate 6 mile round-trip, out and back hike to Hurricane Hill from the main parking lot. Elevation gain loss wil be about 1,200 feet, with the last portion being quite steep. You do not have to complete the whole hike, but be mindful of who you carpool with.
Bring micro-spikes for icy conditions. I don't believe we will need snowshoes, but you can bring them.

Sorry, no dogs allowed.
Restrooms are available in the parking lot, but there are no other amenities since the lodge burned down last year.
Please check the webcam at Hurricane Ridge and the weather forecast for more information. They will post the road status by 9am. If the forecast changes or the road is closed, we can hike the Heart of the Forest Trail instead.
