Pyramid Peak at Lake Crescent -- Hike and Picnic
Details
weather permitting
There will be two options for the hike-- a 9am group and an 11am group
The first group of hikers will begin at 9am and will do the more strenuous hike to the top of pyramid peak. This is a 7 mile, out and back hike with 2,400 ft elevation gain. Also, there is a section from a former landslide that may be challenging for some. It requires walking 150 to 200 ft on loose gravel with a steep drop-off. The view from the top is the reward for the effort.
The second group of hikers will start at 11am. We will start with a relatively easy 4 mile round-trip hike on the Pyramid Peak Trail. The elevation gain/loss is approximately 900 feet. We will stop at the landslide portion, enjoy a view of the lake, and head back down to the North Shore Day Use area.
Both hiking groups will unit for a campfire at the fire ring near the parking area. There are picnic tables along the lake. The pier is now roped off with hazard tape.
Bring your own food to cook over the fire. Feel free to bring food to share, too. You may also want to bring a camp chair, table, and / or blanket.
This is a popular spot for a cold plunge if you are into that.
There is one vault toilet in the parking lot. The parking lot can hold 15 vehicles.
If you would like to bring something to share, please post it in the comments section.
DRIVING DIRECTIONS
Take Hwy 101 to the west end of Lake Crescent. Turn right on Camp David Junior Rd and follow it for about 3.5 miles. This is a narrow, dirt road on the north shore of Lake Crescent. When you see a sign for Ovington, drive past it and turn into the parking lot on the right. It is easiest to check your milage from the turnoff from Hwy 101. This area is adjacent to the Olympic Discovery Trail.
There is no cell service here, so please check your map before you head out.
