Grand Valley Trail - first 2 miles, Olympic National Park
Details
weather permitting
This is a moderate 4 mile, round-trip, out and back hike on the Grand Valley Trail. Total elevation gain/loss is about 950 feet.
Voluntary carpooling LEAVES the ONP Visitor's Center in Port Angeles at 8am. We will drive 17 miles up to the top of Hurricane Ridge Rd, then make a sharp left turn onto Obstruction Point Rd. This is a narrow 8 mile long dirt road with amazing views.
Vault toilet available at the trailhead.
We will hike the first 2 miles of the Grand Valley Trail, stopping just before it drops deeply into the valley. There are a few steep and rocky sections, but the trail mostly follows a high ridge with 360 degree views of the Olympics. We will stop for snacks and hope there are no mosquitoes. If you have never been on Obstruction Point Rd, this is a good introduction to the area where several difficult trails begin.
Each vehicle must show a National Park Pass at the fee station, good for the driver and 3 passengers. No dogs allowed.
Please indicate if you can drive, if you need a ride, or if you plan to meet at the trailhead.
I'm limiting this event to 12 people, so please RSVP only if you are committed to attending.
