Maiden Peak from Deer Park, Olympic National Park
Details
*weather permitting *
This is a challenging 8 mile round-trip, out and back hike in ONP with 1,750 foot elevation gain/loss.
We start at about 5,200 feet of elevation on Deer Park Rd at the Maiden Peak/Obstruction Point trail and hike down, then up, along the upper ridge for about 4 miles in sub-alpine terrain. Maiden Peak is not clearly signed so it's important that we stay together. We will tread carefully up the steep slope and enjoy sweeping views of the Strait of Juan de Fuca to the north and the Olympic mountains to the south. This trail is very exposed to wind and sun and is above the tree line. Trekking poles are highly recommended for the steep and slippery sections.
Carpooling is voluntary. If you wish to carpool, be ready to leave Deer Park Cinema (96 Deer Park Lane) at 8am.
Deer Park Rd is 9 miles of paved road, then 8 miles of narrow, dirt forest road with some steep drop offs. The small trailhead parking lot fills up quickly.
No dogs allowed.
