Barnes Creek Trail and Marymere Falls, Lake Crescent
Details
weather permitting
This is a 5 mile round-trip, out and back hike that starts at the Lake Crescent LODGE parking lot. We will walk on the trail under Hwy 101.
This moderately challenging hike, with about 350 feet of elevation change, starts on the same trail to Marymere Falls. At the junction to the Falls, simply keep going straight. We will follow the undulating trail at the bottom of a deep canyon and cross some log bridges over Barnes Creek. There are two short, sloped sections of this trail that had landslides that left the trail very narrow and require slow and steady walking. If you dont want to cross these sections, you can turn around with a partner and start your walk back. At 2.5 miles we will reach a section along the creek bank and turn around here. (The trail begins to ascend steeply after this.)
Once back at Lake Crescent Lodge, we can extend our walk by taking the short Moments in Time Trail back to our cars.
Trekking poles are recommended, but not required. Sorry, no dogs allowed as this is within Olympic National Park.
Lake Crescent does not have a fee station or require your pass to be displayed.
