💡 Speaker One:
Chris Harmon, Solutions Engineer, Confluent
Title of Talk: ksqlDB: Stream Processing Made Simple
Abstract:
Stream processing can be difficult to get started with if you're new to the concept. Apache Kafka gives us the Kafka Streams library, which is very powerful, but not everybody who's using Kafka feels comfortable writing Java or Scala code. SQL, on the other hand, is the one language that's well understood by everyone who works with data. ksqlDB gives you a familiar, lightweight SQL syntax so that you can begin to leverage Kafka Streams with a much shorter learning curve
Bio:
Chris Harmon is a Solutions Engineer with Confluent. He was a DBA & SQL developer for about a decade until he began to pursue a focus in modern data engineering using cloud native & open source technologies in early 2021. Some data streaming projects built on Kafka landed in his lap, and his desire to know more intensified. Now he helps companies leverage Kafka and Confluent to solve their business problems.

💡 Speaker Two:
Nick Larson, VP of Technology, Improving
Title of Talk: Intro to Flink
Abstract:
Apache Flink is a powerful and widely used open-source framework for distributed data processing and analytics. It offers both batch and streaming processing capabilities, high performance and scalability, and advanced features such as window operations, event time processing, and state management.
In this presentation, we will dive into the ecosystem of Apache Flink and explore its various components, such as the DataStream API and DataSet API, and the state backends available. We will also examine real-world use cases and best practices for using Flink in your data processing pipeline.
Bio:
Nick Larson is the VP of Technology for Improving Omaha. His career has been filled with assisting clients in their journey to a modern platform. He has become familiar with Confluent and Kafka over the past 5 years by working on various clients to leverage data streaming technologies as a fit to many problems they encounter.
