⛰️ Jabal Shams Summit Hike (W4) - conquer the highest peak of Arabia (3.028m)

🥾Distance: ~20km (total, split in 2 days)
📍Location: Jabal Shams (~3h from Muscat)
🚗 No 4x4 required to reach the area (SUV recommend. Carpooling options available at +10 OMR)

🗓️ 2-Day Summit Hike Program

1️⃣ Day 1

• 07:30 – Departure from Muscat; drive through Al Hamra to Jabal Shams plateau (~3-3.5h drive).
• 11:00 – Arrival at the plateau / trailhead parking area; safety briefing, start of hike.
• 11:30 – Begin ascent towards the rim/plateau viewpoint.
• 2:30 – Reach plateau campsite area (approximate halfway). Set up camp.
• 3:30 – Short acclimatisation hike to nearby viewpoint overlooking the canyon (Wadi Ghul, aka “Grand Canyon of Arabia”).
• 5:30 – Sunset viewing from camp-rim; campfire, BBQ dinner, stargazing.
• Overnight camping at ~2,900 elevation.

2️⃣ Day 2

• 05:30 – Wake-up for sunrise.
• 06:00 – Breakfast at camp.
• 07:00 - Continue the hike toward South Summit with panoramic ridge views for ~2-2,5h.
• 09:30 – Summit viewpoint, photographs, rest.
• 10:00 – Begin descent via same trail, with breaks and lunch at campsite en-route.
• 4:00 – Arrive back at trailhead vehicles; short rest, depart Jabal Shams plateau, drive back toward Muscat.
