Andrei Tarkovsky’s films are found on nearly every critic’s lists of all-time best, however little is known about his productions of Hamlet, Boris Godunov, or William Faulkner’s Turnabout.

Even less is known of the role his ancestors played in the 19th century establishment of the National Ukrainian Theater, nor their entanglement with the political terror of the Narodnaya Volya, the notorious anarchist agitators of the Russian Empire.
