What we’re about

We are the sister group of Sydney Central Book Corner, established 2006 which meets monthly in the Sydney CBD. This subgroup was established in 2020.

Meetings currently occur by zoom Saturday 8pm (AEDT observed in NSW/VIC/TAS/ACT) approx every 6-8 weeks to discuss this month's book, chat about other books we've read or a worthy streamed TV series.

Most members are 30-55 years and enjoy reading a variety of books, including fiction, non-fiction and book-to-film adaptions. The group jointly selects books to read every 3-6 months.

Upcoming book discussions from July 2021 onwards include:
* Wild by Cheryl Strayed (Memoir/Travel 2012)
* Phospherescence by Julia Baird and
* Rodham by Curtis Sittenfeld (Historical Fiction 2020)
* "The Dry" 2020 film (or novel if you prefer)

Past online book discussions have included:
* Becoming by Michelle Obama (Memoir/Politics/Feminism, 2018)
* American Factory - Netflix documentary (2019)
* Boy Swallows Universe by Trent Dalton (2019)
* Unorthodox (Netflix mini-series 2020) with reference to Deborah Feldman's memoirs(2018)
* Educated: A Memoir by Tara Westover (2018).

To keep members costs down, we generally favour books readily available in public libraries or second hand bookshops. Though we do read new release if it comes highly recommended.

Your first two meetings with our group are fee-free. To join subsequent meetings a fee will be charged (approx. $5 per meeting).

A key philosophy of Book Corner is to share the cost of running our group .
