About us
Join us for a book club style discussion of the Bible on Zoom! This is a group built first for those with those who have deconstructed to discuss it not as a spiritual text but as ancient story, as literature, and as an example of the human experience. This is a space designed for everyone: atheists, agnostics, LGBTQ+ people, and liberal Christians - anyone who’s willing to look at the text without theological commitment.
Show up having read or listened to the provided section in your translation of choice (NRSV or NRSVUE are respected options) and prepared to share your perspective.
Boundaries:
- this is not a devotional Bible study
- evangelizing is not permitted
- this is not a religious trauma processing group
- constructive discussion and diverse perspectives are welcome
- nothing approaching a theological discussion
Examples of how to disagree in this group:
- okay: I disagree, I don’t see an abolitionist theme in Amos. In fact, I think the author endorses slavery…
- not okay: God is morally perfect and would never endorse slavery…
- okay: actually, the way Amos contrasts with Exodus makes me think this book is…
- not okay: but if you look in Matthew, Jesus says…
- okay: I find this text inspiring and it reminds me of my belief in loving others and is a great example of why I find value in religious practice
- not okay: obviously God is telling us we need to love our neighbor
