Legend in the Mist - Introduction Session
Details
Curious about trying something a little different from D&D?
I’m considering running a new online campaign using Legend in the Mist - a fantasy roleplaying system that shares D&D’s core pleasures of dice-rolling and collaborative storytelling, but puts a little more emphasis on character development and a little less on number-crunching.
The campaign I’m exploring has a cosy, rustic setting with players beginning as ordinary people rather than powerful adventurers (although who knows how they will develop over time). That said, it isn’t all comfort and candlelight - there are also aspects of folk horror and a slightly darker fairy-tale edge. It's quite Tolkein-esque as a setting I would say, with a grand narrative sweep that doesn't lose sight of the importance of smaller scenes and less (overtly) powerful individuals.
In general I would say this system will suit people who really get invested in the character development side of rpgs and the storytelling aspects. Its very narrative-focused, and flexible as to what characters can do, so if you like the crunchy rules-as-written elements of dnd then this might not be for you.
Beginners are very welcome - there's no need to be familiar with dnd to give this a go.
This session is an introduction and taster to guage interest rather than a full game. I’ll try to explain how the system works, talk a bit more about the setting and style of play I have in mind, and depending on numbers, we may try a few small practice scenes. There will also be plenty of space for any questions.
Full disclosure - while I’m a very experienced D&D DM, I’m still fairly new to this system myself (and indeed the system itself is quite new), so this would be something I’d to an extent be learning alongside the players. Patience required all round!
My hope is to find 4-5 players interested in joining a longer-running campaign, since this system really shines when characters have time to grow and change over time. So if that sounds appealing, come along, get a feel for it, and see whether it might be your kind of thing.
This session will run using zoom, and eventually the game will be on zoom and (probably) foundry vtt or roll20.
