I am organizing a relaxed language introduction to Portuguese, set in the streets of Lisbon.

It’s designed for people with little to no experience with Portuguese. No prior knowledge is needed, just curiosity.

I am a linguist with a degree in Portuguese linguistics, but I actually found Portuguese very tricky until I started to understand how it worked, and I would love to share my knowledge with you!

Over the course of a slow, informal walk through Graça, while making stops along the way, I’ll introduce you to how Portuguese actually sounds and works in everyday life.

Instead of focusing on formal grammar, we’ll look at real language: what you see on signs, hear in cafés, and encounter in daily interactions.

This experience is perfect for:

  • People who are new to the city and want to pick up a few words
  • People who want to start learning Portuguese, but don't know where to start
  • People who have already started learning Portuguese, but who are still struggling to actually speak

We’ll explore things like:

  • basic pronunciation patterns that make Portuguese easier to recognize and say
  • common expressions you’ll actually hear in Lisbon
  • small “decoder” tricks
  • a few culturally specific words that don’t translate neatly, but help you understand how people think and speak

The focus is on noticing and recognizing language in context, not memorizing rules.

I’ll also include small speaking moments so you can try things out in a low-pressure way.

Some reviews:

"As a beginner, I am really glad I found this. It is extremely practical for daily life in Portugal, especially because it focuses on how real people actually speak instead of just giving literal translations. It has even helped me at work to respond correctly to my coworkers!"
- Enzo

"I couldn’t have asked for a better host than Amarens. She was super friendly, inclusive and her knowledge about Lisbon and Portuguese was amazing. I highly recommend this to anyone who wants an introduction to Lisbon and the Portuguese language!"
-Gautham

"The instructor Amarens achieved great group dynamics because of her knowledge, great passion and organisational skills. At the end no one in the group wanted to leave!"
- Jithi

This is a pay-what-you-want experience, meaning that at the end you can pay the amount you think the experience was worth to you.

Think of it as a gentle introduction to Portuguese through the city itself: part language, part observation, part conversation.
