What we’re about
We are a volunteer group that contribute our talents toward improving our community through open data and web technology:
• working on civic tech projects (visit https://www.opencleveland.org/projects/details/
• start a new project, or find one to join (all backgrounds welcome!)
• bounce ideas and get help from tech and government experts
• learn about open data, smart cities, and open government

Collaborate to build apps and visualizations, clean up unstructured data, catalog public datasets, create new projects to transform our region; check out an event on the calendar for more on how Civic Hack Nights work.

On Civic Hacking.
"A civic hacker is an open source software developer who uses his or her skills to make their community and country a better place. ... A civic hacker will just do something, not asking for permission, ignoring government bureaucracy, in order to build tools and technologies with a civic-minded bent."

Upcoming events (1)
See all- Talking bicycles and maps at Open Cleveland's hack nightCleveland Estabrook Recreation, Cleveland, OH
Featured Presentation:
Liam Leveto GIS Analyst from Cuyahoga County, will present how Cuyahoga county maps and manages geospatial data for bicyclists (like where are bike lanes on roads and off-road bike paths, how much vehicle traffic does it have?) to measure how bicycle-friendly roads are and how it uses its data.
For example, the city uses PeopleForBikes to measure how well how our bike infrastructure can be used for residents to get to destinations, compared to other cities.
Other news:
RTA released an API of vehicles' real-time locations! Interested to delve more into the data and using RTA's data to improve service and make it easier for fellow Clevelanders to use the RTA, analyze RTA buses if they arrive on schedule, measure coverage and frequency, or any other ideas with the data?(see https://github.com/luqmaan/awesome-transit for some ideas).
We'll have space and time to hack on our projects or your own projects if you'd like.
