This group is for people who want to have facilitated, open conversations about sex and gender, but this first event will be a bit different.

I had already rented a classroom at UofO to film a short talk (I was dead set on a chalkboard), so I decided to open it up and invite others to join and discuss afterward.

The talk will be my attempt to analyze the logic of gender identity. My aim is to show that the concept has logical gaps that make it difficult to discuss coherently, especially across ideological lines.

Obviously this topic is highly charged, both because it provokes our own emotions, and because we worry about the emotions of others and the potential resulting fallout. But that's why I started this group in the first place.

I'll end by offering some suggestions for reframing the conversation in ways that might allow for more effective communication.

Then we’ll have an open group discussion. As always, all are welcome to participate.

You are probably wondering what my qualifications are that grant me the authority to talk about gender identity in front of a classroom. I don't have any. But, that's kind of the point of the group. These concepts are defined by everyone, and affect everyone, so I think we're all entitled to talk about it.

Please note that this event will be filmed from the back of the classroom so I can post the video on my Substack (mrgirl.substack.com). No one's face except mine will be included.
