Crowdsource Wilmington: Let's Build a Parking Map

Details

We're constantly amazed by the amount of growth we've seen in Wilmington. New bars. New restaurants. New housing. New events. New people.

With all of this "new-ness", it can be a bit overwhelming for people visiting the city. Parking, in particular, can feel quite overwhelming for visitors. The problem? There currently isn't a parking map of the city.

We're going to fix that. In one day. With your help. Here's how.

###################################################
PART ONE: Gather the data!

10:00 am - Meet at the Mill in downtown Wilmington. Register and grab some light breakfast refreshments

10:15 am - Review goals for the day and how to gather data

11:00 am - Break up into small teams (pairs). Each pair is given a specific area of the city to gather data for. Ideally, one person in each team will be a driver and the other will be a recorder. Don't have a car? No problem! You can either be part of a walking group or partner with a person who has a car. Each group will head to their specific area of the city to record data

12:30 pm - Gather back at the Mill. Lunch will be provided.

###################################################
PART TWO: Digitize the data!

1:30 pm - Mapping workshop with Stephen Hess

2:30 pm - Use what you learned from the mapping workshop to turn the data that you recorded into an interactive, online map

3:45 pm - Wrap up!

WHO IS MAKING THIS POSSIBLE?

A huge thank you goes out to our friends at the Mill for allowing us to gather in their space. If you're interested in joining one of Delaware's best coworking communities, check out themillspace.com

This is one event of dozens from around the country on August 11, 2018 from communities that are participating in the National Day of Civic Hacking, organized by Code for America. To see some of the other events, take a look at nationaldayofcivichacking.com.
