-Abstract:

This meetup will focus on exciting new web technologies for graphing and data analysis while discussing data visualization best practices. Further, the talk with elaborate on how Plotly (https://plot.ly/) remade historically important maps with a modern twist. Those participating in the demonstration will learn how to can make interactive versions of graphs (and many more) with Plotly, D3.js, Python, R and other programs.

Finally, the attendees will also learn about the functions in Plotly and how it can leverage for work and business.

-Speaker Biography:

Marianne Corvellec speaks and teaches regularly at science/techevents. She is a certified instructor with Software Carpentry. Since
2013, she has been an instructor and helper at many workshops about
Python programming and data analysis (including but not limited to
Software Carpentry workshops). She spoke at SciPy 2013, useR! 2014,
and co-instructed a tutorial at PyCon 2015. Marianne did a PhD in
statistical physics (Ecole Normale Supérieure de Lyon, France,
2008–2012) from which she gained expertise in statistics and
scientific plotting. Also, she TAed many tutorials and labs at the
undergraduate level. Marianne thus has experience teaching a variety
of audiences: non-programmers, novices, women groups, undergraduate
and graduate students, scientists.
