Details

Open edX is the open source online learning platform that powers over 1,000 courses on http://edX.org . The Open edX code is freely available to the community. Institutions can host their own instances of Open edX and offer their own classes. Educators can extend the platform to build learning tools that precisely meet their needs. And developers can contribute new features to the Open edX platform.

While Open edX has it's roots in institutions of higher learning such as Harvard, MIT, UC Berkeley, Stanford, the platform is being re-imagined as a tool to help businesses and organizations scale their customer training and keep their in-house talent up to date with skills to help them do their jobs better and more efficiently.

For our inaugural meetup event, we welcome individuals and companies experienced in the platform as well as those interested in learning more about the potential uses of this software.

Our speaker will be Nate Aune (https://www.linkedin.com/in/natea) of Appsembler (http://appsembler.com), a pioneer of Open edX, who originally worked at edX and now leads a team that's creating a turnkey hosted Open edX offering. During the first hour of the event, Nate will discuss his experience using Open edX for a variety of customers (including Microsoft, Cloudera, Financial Times, Penn State) after which attendees will have the chance to meet and mingle.
