For December 10th, we are meeting at Structures Brewing, 601 W Holly St. It's across from Maritime Heritage Park, not far from Jalapeno's.

As of Fall 2025, we are looking for an ideal venue that meets these conditions: 1. reasonably priced food and drink; 2. close to downtown Bellingham; 3. all ages; 4. beer/alcohol options. Please note that we may be moving to different locations from week to week!

For December 2nd, we are meeting at McKay's Taphouse. 5pm(ish) - 8:00pm. It is located at 1118 E. Maple Street (Off Samish Way) across from the Jiffy Lube.

They are a pizzaria with other options and have an excellent taplist. They are, however, a bit of a walk from downtown (maybe 15-20 minutes.) If you cannot find parking in the small lot, you might find something on the other side of Samish. This location is temporary pending club membership preference. We do often have book readings that some of us participate in, but otherwise topics aren't planned. In the coming weeks, I have the following two books on my list:
1. Robert Sapolsky's "Determined: A Science of Life Without Freewill"
2. Fyodor Dostoevsky's "Notes From Underground"
Though they aren't quite a perfect contrast, I do think they present differing views on freewill, rationality, and scientific reductionism.

Club size in the fall tends to vary from 8-16 people, many of whom come at different times. The meetings usually get rolling closer to 5:30pm when several people have showed up. Many of the attendees are active or past students from my classes at Whatcom Community College or people who found the the club from this Meetup site.

I'm making this a kind of generic event that I can copy and pasta since I mostly organize through Facebook. If you're interested in joining that group, you can search "Open Philosophy Club 3.0". And feel free to message me somewhere to let me know that you requested to join.
