#1 Science and Beers Club - No agenda, just enjoy science together

Details

To all my dear scientists and hackers,

some of you might know I am really busy with the organization of the “Health Hackers Erlangen”. Although this takes more focus than I thought, it does not stop me from being curious. So, let´s try a new format and also a new language to be more open for our international friends in Erlangen:

Science and Beers Club

It is supposed to be a more casual event with no agenda and only sometimes with a given topic, but we still take science seriously. Everyone is welcomed to pitch his ideas or problem no matter that field of interest. People who show up to this event should bring two key characteristics or should stay at home:

Curiosity and an open mind

In my time in the Waag Society in Amsterdam and especially now with the Health Hackers I recognized how deeply inspiring such an open exchange between all disciplines can be. So, if you want to be part of various discussions, get inspired and find likeminded people, just join us. If you question yourself if your field of interest or your current experience is “good enough”, don´t hesitate and at least give it a try.

There are only three rules in the Science and Beer Club:

  1. Be excellent to each other.
  2. Everyone is welcomed and treated the same way - no matter if student, PhD or professor --> science matters not your position
  3. It is not about outcome e.g. publication --> what matters is the shared fascination to science, the beauty of the intellectual discourse and the fun in the process.

There is so much cool science out there, cool things to discover and so many challenges waiting to be solved, so let´s get to it or in other words:

“Research is formalized curiosity. It is poking and prying with a purpose.” Zora Neale Hurston

Cheers

Chris
