Details

We will have a short lecture from our hosts and then we will start working on open source projects.

There will be several experienced developers who will be able to help new-comers make their first contribution to Open Source. You can identify these developers by the fact they will be wearing hats. If you are an experience developer interested in helping others, please bring a [preferably funny] hat with you.

19:00-19:30- Hacking a nextgen Redis client for fun and profit, by Itamar Haber, Redis Labs

In its next version (v6), Redis - the open-source in-memory data store - will introduce an evolution of its wire protocol. The current protocol (REdis Serialization Protocol version 2, or RESP v2) is specified at https://redis.io/ , whereas RESP3's is at https://github.com/antirez/RESP3/blob/master/spec.md .

RESPv2 has many (almost 200) clients (see https://redis.io/clients) in almost every language. Almost all are FOSS and (almost) none support the upcoming transition to RESP3. This 20 minutes session will provide an overview of the protocol and client design basics, so participants can instantly jump into the action using their favorite language to extend an existing client project and/or start a new one of their own.
