Wroclaw Open Source Meetup #18
Details
The spring season has just begun and so has our Meetup series. We would like to initiate it with the 18th edition of Wroclaw Open Source Meetup.
Please join us on March 26th at 18:00 and enjoy an evening filled with the latest updates in the world of open source and some good times spent with like minded enthusists of technology.
Agenda:
1. Simulate your chip fast and for free with Verilator; Bartlomiej Chmiel, Antmicro
The landscape of hardware description language simulation is dominated by clunky, expensive proprietary tools. Slowly but surely, this has been changing thanks to emerging open source alternatives. Verilator is a standout among these, offering great performance and usability, while being completely free and open. Let us take a look at what makes it great, how one can use it, as well as its growth over the past few years and into the future.
2. The creative side of open source: technical writing and graphic design; Catherine Labedzka and Jakub Mieloch, Antmicro
Open source projects are often associated mainly with code, but successful projects rely on much more than software development. Clear documentation, visual communication and thoughtful design play a key role in making complex technologies understandable and accessible.
In this session we will explore the creative side of working on open source projects. We will discuss how technical writers contribute through technical communication such as documentation and in-depth articles, and how graphic designers help shape the project visual identity, frontend interfaces and technical visuals. Using examples from Antmicro's open source projects, we will also introduce some of the tools we use in our workflow, such as the MyST Editor for collaborative documentation, adopting Penpot for UI design and Blender for creating technical visuals, as scalable alternatives to commercial solutions.
