Generative AI lowers the barrier to executing sophisticated phishing attacks by automating reconnaissance, crafting persuasive messages, and optimizing attack flow. While current LLM safeguards slow full automation, threat actors are researching ways to bypass them. For now, GenAI is primarily an enabler rather than a substitute for the human element.
