What we’re about

All are welcome – Come as you are – Just as you are. Everyone is welcome to meet some new friends and join us on this spiritual life journey we're all on together. Here we are exploring the rich and complicated history of Christianity and studying the Bible in context. The book was never intended to generate isolation or fear. Unfortunately, we live in an era where that fear, and other Biblical misunderstandings, overshadow love and acceptance.

We are a safe place to deconstruct past religious experiences and reform faith through a reclaiming of God’s truth of Jesus beyond a literal interpretation of the Bible. We identify bad theology and misconceptions about God, the Bible, hell, and the following of Jesus’ teachings. We question tradition and reject fundamentalism and how Evangelicals have entered into the political realm – something Jesus would never have done. We focus on promoting Jesus’ values of compassion, affirmation, mercy, and tolerance. We celebrate human diversity, work to achieve social justice, and care for the oppressed. We have a deep belief in the centrality of God’s instruction to simply “love one another” the way Jesus loved each of us. Everyone is included in God’s kingdom without condition or expectation.

Come ask your questions about God, the church, and the Bible! We seek to explore the Bible in context and drop all the baggage that often comes with religious dogma and denomination. If you've been hurt by the church, we apologize. We find that people like this Jesus guy... just sometimes not so much his followers. Ha! Join us and find an affirming community that seeks to find a Jesus that just might look different from the one you were taught about in your childhood Sunday School or screamed at you from a bullhorn on a street corner.

Post covid, everything has changed... not just how we work and play, but also our spiritual communities meet as well. Over the years we have met in maybe 6-7 different locations all around Long Beach and OC... most recently at the Westminster Mall since 2018. As many of you know, the mall is being demolished so things are changing at Open Door. Our main focus continues with our YouTube Channel "Open Door OC" where we record weekly videos for our over 27,500 online subscribers. We also have American Sign Language (ASL) interpreted videos as well. And, a group of us meets for Contemplative Spirituality prayer and meditation that meets on Zoom. In many ways we've become a virtual church.

We hope that you can find our online videos useful and allow you to connect to God in a new way. Or, please zoom in for Contemplative Spirituality one Saturday morning for some personal interacton. Be Blessed today!
