OpenStack Storage and the Cinder Project - The March OpenStack L.A. Meetup

Details

I am thrilled to welcome back Mike Perez, the Development Coordinator at the OpenStack Foundation, to present at the OpenStack L.A. Meetup!

I took over the organizer role for OpenStack L.A. from Mike nearly two years ago and it will great to have him back with us for the March meetup!

If you're curious about the ins and outs of OpenStack storage, this is one meetup you won't want to miss. See you all in a couple of weeks.

Presentation Abstract:

OpenStack Storage and the Cinder Project

Today, there are many different storage solutions to choose from. It can be overwhelming from a cloud provider's perspective to offer many options for their users, let alone provide a consistent set of tools with each vendor offering their own interface.

The OpenStack Block Storage project Cinder provides an API to talk to many different vendor solutions, in which other applications or OpenStack programs can talk to.

We'll first examine the difference between block, file, and object storage. That'll lead us into having an introduction to Cinder, and an opportunity to review the architecture, vendor driver plugin model, current features, and what's new in the Mitaka release. More importantly we'll learn how Cinder is helping with cross-project initiatives like vendor third-party CI testing and rolling upgrades.
