OpenSearch Project Vienna - Launch Event
Details
We invite the OpenSearch community in Vienna to gather and join the launch event of the Vienna User Group. This event will be a great opportunity to network within the open-source search technology community and learn more about what the OpenSearch platform can do.
If you've used or are simply curious about core search technologies like OpenSearch, Lucene, or Solr - and their applications in areas such as enterprise search, vector search, log analytics, security, and generative AI - this is the place for you!
Even if search is only a small part of your day-to-day work, come by to learn, share ideas, and connect with other passionate engineers.
RISE is happy to host the evening with free drinks and snacks — just bring your curiosity and good vibes!

Speakers and Sessions
Talk 1: Community and Contribution
OpenSearch Community - learn about the project, the community, and different ways you can contribute and help it grow.
Kris Freedain, Community Manager & Ambassador for the OpenSearch Project & OpenSearch Software Foundation, and technical steering committee.
Kris has decades of experience in tech, but finds connecting people to be the most fulfilling part of being a community professional. Kris is also a Fediverse admin for the Fosstodon instance and serves as a Fosstodon Foundation Board Member.
Talk 2: Container Security Monitoring with OpenSearch
In this talk, we’ll explore how to effectively monitor containerized and Linux environments using OpenSearch.
We’ll look at different approaches to container and host monitoring, discuss what to keep in mind when designing secure observability pipelines, and demonstrate how various technologies integrate with OpenSearch to collect, analyze, and visualize security-relevant data.
- Attendees will gain practical insights into building a robust container security monitoring setup using OpenSearch, and learn how to turn raw system events into actionable intelligence.
Maximilian Scharizer has a strong background in security, having previously worked as a penetration tester. Fascinated by the insights that can be drawn from logs and data intelligence, he now focuses on OpenSearch and other monitoring systems, with a particular emphasis on containers and Kubernetes. He has been working with OpenSearch for the past three years.
