• What we'll do

Students and instructors from "Disasters, Decisions, Development in Sustainable Urban Systems", a project-based, service-learning course at Stanford University, will share highlights from their urban flood risk assessment methodology that takes flood maps, climate change and sea level rise pathways, open street map building footprints, tax assessor data, and fragility curves to estimate direct and indirect economic losses over the century. The results and tool will serve the County of San Mateo Office of Sustainability and individual jurisdictions in developing an evidence-based, equity-driven adaptation framework for sea level rise. http://sus.stanford.edu/resilience

Andrew will talk about how he used SMC data and the Google Maps API to easily create a map of health inspections in the area. Now we know where to avoid eating!

We'll have a chance to see the progress we've made on Get Connected SMC, a website that helps users connect to food resources and programs. http://wic.surge.sh/ Finally, we'll talk about a proposed app for San Mateo County's Human Services Agency for use by foster youth in the County. This is a project that comes with funding! If you're interested in working with government and making money while doing it, come to hack night to find out more!
