I was just reading over this blog post:

And somebody needs to explain this to me. I understand why Windowers would be jealous of Linux' vast system of mighty repositories (it is WAY cool), but that system works because it is THE way to distribute software in that universe. Beyond simply supplying source code and binaries, they make updating every app AND the OS possible.

The critical part is the benevolent dictator that pays for the bandwidth used by the repos. Can at least one be found for Windows? Does this mean you could have almost have a "distribution" of Windows? I wonder to what extent they have thought this through. But having my doubts, I know the only way it could ever happen would be an Open process.
