TOPIC: Hype or Reality - Software Defined Cloud Networking in OpenStack
Peter Sprygada from Arista will discuss practical concepts of open, extensible network operating systems relative to advancing OpenStack initiatives. The role of the modern data center network extends well beyond basic connectivity - we’ll see how pragmatic integration of compute, network and storage functionality empowers provisioning and management at scale. We’ll clear-up some of the hype around what “software defined cloud networking” is all about - in the context of OpenStack. Finally, it we’ll look at why - and how - a programmable IP infrastructure can leverage distributed controllers to provide the very foundation for interconnecting applications throughout the OpenStack ecosystem.
SPEAKER:
Peter Sprygada brings over 15 years of network design, engineering and operations experience working with large enterprises and service providers in the United States,Asia-Pacific and Europe. In that time Peter has focused his efforts on designing and deploying data center operational architectures. Since joining Arista back in June, 2012, Peter has applied his knowledge and experience working towards helping customers realize the benefits of developing and operationalizing full stack software defined cloud networking solutions.In addition to his focus on working with customers, Peter has also contributed to advancing industry standards as a contributing member to the Metro Ethernet Forum and the ITU with work focused on G.8031 and G.8032. In addition, he is also a Cisco Certified Internet work Expert, Service Provider (CCIE #20599) and holds a patent related to performing service discovery and correlation of Ethernet services (USPTO No.8,130,675).
Currently Peter is also an individual contributor to the OpenStack Foundation. Prior to joining Arista, Peter worked as a Network Consulting Engineer at Cisco and served as IP Operations Manager for Cinergy MetroNet where he was responsible for the design and operational deployment of a next-generation video data center architecture. Before his tenure at Cinergy MetroNet, Peter has held various consulting and marketing positions at Riverstone Networks (acquired by Alcatel-Lucent) and Vivace Networks (acquired by Tellabs).
