Missing Maps Mapathon, MLK Weekend of Service 2019

Details

Happy 2019! The MLK Weekend of Service is almost here! To honor Dr. King’s life and legacy of service, OSM Seattle and the American Red Cross are hosting our 4th annual service event at the University of Washington’s Anderson Hall.

When disasters happen, the Red Cross uses OpenStreetMap maps and data to deliver aid and supplies to people who need help. Many of these regions (some halfway around the world) are not mapped at all! We make those maps possible by looking at aerial photos, and tracing roads and buildings that we see.

Examples of projects we may work on include: mapping Ebola outbreak regions, mapping Malaria eradication spraying areas, or mapping recently flooded disaster areas.

No experience is necessary, there will be brief instruction time at the start. All you'll need to bring is a laptop (though a mouse and charger are highly recommended). Please join us for an hour or two and help make it another great success!
