Open Data Book Club - Toronto Lobbyist Registry

Details

On Thursday, July 20, Toronto will hold its 24th Open Data Book Club... an idea borrowed from Open Data Ottawa.

This concept is the same as a regular book club, but instead of discussing books, we discuss an Open Data Set from either the Municipal, Provincial, or Federal levels of government.

The City of Toronto already has an online tool to lookup lobbyists in Toronto (click here (http://www1.toronto.ca/wps/portal/contentonly?vgnextoid=cf1fb7537e35f310VgnVCM10000071d60f89RCRD&appInstanceName=default)), but they also provide the data set powering this tool in XML format.

That is why this month we are looking at the Toronto Lobbyist Registry Open Data Set (http://www1.toronto.ca/wps/portal/contentonly?vgnextoid=fecf29444c8c4310VgnVCM1000003dd60f89RCRD&vgnextchannel=1a66e03bb8d1e310VgnVCM10000071d60f89RCRD). Please note that it is the lobbyists' exclusive responsibility to ensure that all submitted information is accurate and correct.
If you have any questions about the Open Data Sets, you can contact either Cristina De Caprio or Betty Au from the Toronto Lobbyist Registry Office at lobbyistregistrar@toronto.ca

ACTION ITEMSNOTE: You do not need to create anything to attend an Open Data Book Club Meetup. Feel free to come and just listen or ask questions :-).

  1. Have a look at this data set.

  2. Create a visualization or analysis based on its content. Do not hesitate to add layers from other data sets.

  3. Come to the meetup and showcase your work.
