What we’re about
RVA Works connects, inspires, educates, and empowers entrepreneurs!
RVA Works holds public events, provides cohort-based business acceleration. Through our Open Trellis technology emerging entrepreneurs attend educational events, receive business advice, credit counseling, and referrals to lenders.
RVA Works is also a promotional partner for 1 Million Cups events, a national program of the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation that is designed to help entrepreneurs identify opportunities and overcome challenges.
In Richmond, Virginia 1 Million Cups is hosted by the Robins School of Business, University of Richmond, and pro bono events are offered on a hybrid basis to benefit those outside of our region.
Weekly speakers include entrepreneurs and those creating systems that support them. Speakers share their individual stories and motivation, their business model, and their growth strategy. Plus, attendees work to find ways that we can help the speaker.
Entrepreneurship provides society a way to change the economy and cultivate social impact through inclusion. The entrepreneurs who participate in our programming span industry sector, experience and education level, age groups, and ethnicity.

See all- Meet the Co-founders of Steve, an AI Financial CoachRobins School of Business, Richmond, VA
Meet co-founder Steven Buchko and Jamie Mattioli
Steven Buchko is the Co-Founder & CEO of Steve, an AI financial coach helping millennials build better money habits and reach financial freedom.
Over one-third of millennials aren't on track for an adequate retirement. And unfortunately, the strategies to build wealth and right the course are made inaccessible by expensive financial advisors. "We believe that everyone deserves the opportunity for a happy and healthy future."
Steve combines the power of AI with behavioral science to make financial planning simple, educational, and enjoyable.
Steven Buchko is a University of Florida engineering grad, and spent over a decade building fintech products, scaling CoinCentral (blockchain publication) to 700,000 monthly readers and growing Rain (first regulated cryptocurrency brokerage in the Middle East) to $1B+ in trading volume.
Jamie Mattioli is co-founder of Steve, and is an accomplished financial advisor with more than 15 years of industry experience. Beginning his career in 2009, Jamie held roles at Merrill Lynch, Wells Fargo Advisors, and Northwestern Mutual. In 2020, Jamie founded River City Financial, making the move to independence to build a practice grounded in trust and lasting client relationships. He also serves as a registered principal with Enterprise Financial Network, an OSJ with a significant national footprint. In 2021, Jamie was selected to join the Practice Management Advisory Council for Cambridge Investment Research, Inc., where he completed a full council term.
A longtime Richmond resident since the age of six, Jamie is deeply connected to the community. He earned his bachelor’s degree in finance from Virginia Commonwealth University and his MBA from the University of Richmond. Outside of his professional work, he has supported local causes that matter to him, including serving on the Boards of Directors for both Family Lifeline, a Richmond non-profit founded in 1877, and Heart Havens, another Richmond-based non-profit organization.
Jamie and his wife, Courtney, live in Richmond with their three daughters—Kendall, Hudson, and Windsor—and their two Samoyeds, Barksdale and Nico.
Over the years Jamie has seen how difficult it is for the younger generations to access trustworthy and competent financial guidance, which is why he became a strategic advisor to Steve, an AI financial coach helping millennials build better money habits and reach financial freedom.
