NOOSH – Student Venture at the University of Richmond

Details

NOOSH is the most recent food venture developed by students of Bench Top Innovations at the University of Richmond. Following the successes of Absurd Snacks and TwinTails Brews, NOOSH is off to a great start.

NOOSH has been described as, “An eggplant-based dip and spread that is savory, smooth, and citrusy, with a kick of spice.” “A refreshing take on an old favorite that is savory and smooth.” Spread NOOSH!

Bench Top Innovations is a year-long student-managed course where 16 students collaborate, ideate, iterate, and commercialize a packaged food or beverage product concept. Yes, create and operate a revenue-generating business! In the first semester, students compete in teams to ideate and develop innovative, yet practical food or beverage product concepts for commercialization. The first semester ends with a public demo day where the UR and RVA startup community samples the products. A food and beverage expert panel selects which has the most commercial viability. During the second semester, students work as one unit (all 16 company "employees"), launching and scaling the business. Throughout the year, instructors, advisors, and guest speakers supplement the experience with content applicable to the issues students face.

Meet two members of the student team leading NOOSH. Bailey Rossenfeld, originally from San Diego, is pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Mathematical Economics, and a minor in Computer Science, as well as Data Science & Statistics. Derek Gilmore is from Montville, New Jersey. Derek is pursuing a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration.
