Advanced OpenFlow/SDN tutorial for developers

On June 4, June 11 and June 18, Deutsche Telekom Innovation Center (DT) will sponsor a series of hands-on tutorials on different OpenFlow controllers, including POX, OpenDayLight, and Ryu. The tutorial will be conducted by Dr. Srini Seetharaman.

The June 18th tutorial will start with a quick summary of the API for programming under the 3 controllers (POX, OpenDayLight, and Ryu), and then give the audience choice of 3 services/applications to build (e.g., load-balancing, NAT, flow tracker). Towards the end, we will walk you through the solutions using POX controller.

This is free series of tutorials sponsored by Deutsche Telekom Inc.

Requirements:

Please bring a laptop capable of running Virtual Machines (VM). We will provide a copy of the VM onsite.

About:

Dr. Srini Seetharaman is the Technical Lead for Software-defined Networking (SDN) at Deutsche Telekom Innovation Laboratories. Previously he was a member of the OpenFlow/SDN team at Stanford, between[masked], where he led SDN deployments in several nation-wide campus enterprise networks, including Stanford. He holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the Georgia Institute of Technology.

Hi all, thanks for attending the session and for your encouraging comments! Here are the resources we used in the tutorial:

    1. Slides from the advanced tutorial describing OpenDayLight, POX and Ryu. The actual apps built in tutorial are described in the POX section. Slide 7 shows setup used for load-balancer app: http://yuba.stanford.edu/~srini/tutorial/Advanced_OpenFlowTutorial_Meetup_June_2013.pptx

    2. POX-based stateless load-balancer code to be copied to pox/pox/forwarding: http://yuba.stanford.edu/~srini/tutorial/pox_stateless_lb.py

    3. OpenDayLight-based stateless LB code built over the learning L2 switch. Untar in opendaylight/opendaylight directory and integrate into Eclipse + Maven. When run, be sure to stop samples.loadbalancer through OSGi ("stop 69" and "stop 96"): http://yuba.stanford.edu/~srini/tutorial/odl_tutorial_L2_forwarding_stateless_lb.tar

Fyi, the OpenDayLight beginner's tutorial is available here: http://www.openflow.org/wk/index.php?title=OpenDayLight_Tutorial
We can build on top of that if that works for all.
