We live in a world that is constantly being transformed by new technology and ideas. The resources are available to anyone who decides that they want to create something and see what comes of it. Tools such as the internet, social media, coding and all the data we're collecting open up incredible possibilities.
Why not use these tools to transform the city around us? Our local community is ripe for innovation, and anyone could have an idea that makes a huge impact. Couple that with a group of like minded individuals to help each other along in their efforts and big things start to happen.
This is what Open Wichita exists to do. It is a civic hacking community working on projects to make Wichita better through the use of technology. Other cities all around the world are already benefiting wildly from the effects of these efforts, why not here?
Here's what we're going to do:

Invite any person who wants to be involved to a 24 hour Hackathon taking place on June 4-5 during Riverfest.

Tell people to bring their best ideas, or just show up to form and team and work with others.

Spend the entire 24 hour period making these ideas a reality by accomplishing as much as you can on the efforts.

Have everyone present what they accomplished and pick some winners based on achievement, ambition, creativity, and value.

Keep the movement going forward through continued involvement with the Open Wichita community and the development of the projects.
