Large Scale Optimization - OR Tutorials for Professionals
Details
The purpose of this Tutorials series (cum training) is to cover topics which are not typically covered in academics and are quite relevant for an OR practitioner. Each talk/lecture will be given by a seasoned OR practitioner teaching one topic in-depth. The focus will be on learning practical tips and techniques (keeping the theory to a minimum).
OR Tutorials for Professionals: Session 10
In this session, we will discuss tips/tricks from the industry to handle problems which cannot be solved in a "reasonable" time (the definition of "reasonable" may differ between business settings).
In academia, we typically discuss column generation, Benders decomposition, Lagrange relaxation and other similar techniques. We will NOT discuss these as already widely covered. We will rather discuss techniques (for example: rolling time horizon, divide and conquer, etc) which are typically used in industry to get a reasonably good solution in acceptable run times.
