Opne Auge Film Club #25: The Act of Killing

Details
As the days slowly get brighter ☀️ , we felt safe in screening something darker... 🌑 Join us in watching Joshua Oppenheimer’s 🇺🇸 much acclaimed documentary “The Act of Killing”.
❗ℹ️ Trigger warning: Graphic depictions of violence and murder.
“The Act of Killing” takes us into the minds of former Indonesian death squad leaders as they reenact their past crimes.
Being responsible for mass executions in the 1960's, the film shows us how these men view themselves, and how they have reconciled with their own actions. It is an impactful display of violence, trauma, and how memory can either serve us - or not.
“The Act of Killing” won several awards, including Best Documentary at the European Film Awards (2013), and was nominated for the Academy Awards (2014), BAFTA Awards (2014), and Golden Globe Awards (2014) 🏆🏆🏆. An impressive list of accolades, highlighting the quality of this documentary.
