⚠️ First things first: We will stop using the Meetup platform to schedule our screenings. Rest assured, Opne Auge will continue as a movie club, but we will continue posting about our screenings on our facebook and instagram pages only.

We really like the Meetup platform, but the costs are too high for us to justify keeping it 💔. We hope you will continue to follow us on Facebook and Instagram.

Then, to the movie!

In our 35th screening, we turn to French cinema from the 70s. In François Truffaut's (🇨🇵) "L'Histoire d'Adèle H.", we are told a true story from the 19th century.

The main character of the movie, Adèle Hugo - daughter of famous French figure Victor Hugo, who wrote the Hunchback of Notre Dame! - shows us the intricate balance between fragility and strength of the human mind. See, Adèle is madly in love with British officer Pinson & is convinced he loves her back, even when he repeatedly rejects and debuffs her. It is a tragic story where Adèle's hope and strong mental convinction eventually lead to delusionment, paranoia and mental illness - shot with deep, dark colours, and a certain respect for Adèle despite her ever more obvious madness.

Adèle is portrayed by Isabelle Adjani, only 20 at the time of shooting the movie. She delivered an outstanding performance, leading up to her becoming the youngest ever nominee for the Academy Award for Best Actress 🏆!

"The story of Adèle H." went on to gather a plethora of other awards and nominations, amongs them several César Awards.
