Opne Auge Queer Film Club #3: Crossing
Details
Our third Queer Screening 🌈 takes us to another corner of the world. In Levan Akin's 🇸🇪"Crossing" (2024), we follow retired schoolteacher Lia on her journey to find her long-lost transgender niece Tekla.🏳️⚧️
Lia's journey takes us from Georgia to Istanbul, where she tries to navigate the strange city, the strange language, and the community of transgender immigrants in which she hopes to find her nice. She's accompanied by Tekla's young neighbor Achi (or so he claims), who got himself along for the ride by promising he speaks Turkish.
Crossing is a film about trying to make up for lost time, even when it starts to get harder and harder to believe it's still possible. The film artfully combines humor with a deep sense of regret, and painfully shows the reality of life in all its colours.
In terms of prizes, "Crossing" won the Teddy award 🐻 at the Berlin International Film awards, and also won the GLAAD media award 🏳️🌈 for Outstanding Film.
ℹ️ Language: Georgian, Turkish, English. English subtitles.
